Thinking of trying out for high school soccer?

Should I? This would be my first year playing and I’m in 10th grade, tryouts are Monday..I played with my dad a bit today and he said I was actually pretty good for playing for the first time and have definite potential..plus I run cross country so maybe that’s good too? I have a lot of power in my legs but still have a bit to work on..do you think it’s worth trying out ? What to expect at tryouts and what to wear? I have softball cleats so I could just wear those ?

Softball cleats are illegal for soccer games. The coach may not notice or care, though, for tryouts.

Rather unwisely, most US high school soccer coaches cull their team by extreme fitness drills in tryouts. The coaches often seem to put soccer skills on a second priority to fitness. That may put you at an advantage in tryouts, as mile runs and wind sprints are common.

If you do not make the team this year, I recommend that you join a youth league team in the Spring and Fall seasons. That will put you in much better position for next year’s scholastic try outs.
